You’ve had a terrible day; you’re tired but wired, and all you want to do is find a funny movie and curl up on the sofa. In theory, this sounds simple but in reality, it can lead to a 45-minute search through the sea of options in front of you until you give up and watch YouTube videos of failed X Factor auditions.

It’s not that there isn’t enough choice, it’s that there is too much choice, while amidst the numerous brilliant films on offer are an even larger number of two-star offerings that really aren’t worth wasting 90 minutes on.

What you need is some recommendations of great comedy titles that you might not have considered during your time scouring the rows and rows of options on Amazon Prime. Well, your wish is our command. Here are our top-five comedy films on Amazon Prime.

Death at a Funeral

Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence star in this 2010 remake of the 2007 British version of the same title about a family thrown together for the funeral of their father. Featuring an all-star cast, including Kevin Hart and Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage, this comedy is packed full of laughs, with more than a sprinkling of sentiment running throughout the 92-minute running time. From the leading characters to supporting actors, everyone gets enough time to shine. If you’re in need of being cheered up, there are few films better than this to help you achieve that. Sure, it might be silly, but for an instant giggle-inducer, this is well worth your time.

Logan Lucky

You’d rather be born lucky than rich, right? Well, Channing Tatum’s character Jimmy Logan needs all the luck he can get as his life begins to unravel after being laid off by his job only to find out his ex-wife is moving away with her new husband and daughter. Rather than let his life continue to spiral out of control, Jimmy assembles a rag-tag crew to rob the Speedway using his knowledge of their tube system for moving money. While we don’t get to find out whether Logan has one of the luckiest star signs which seem to be Gemini, Leo and Sagittarius, according to Lottoland’s look into historic lottery wins, what follows is a series of hilarious and fortuitous situations in which our heroes find themselves stumbling through.

The Big Sick

This romantic comedy was a huge hit when it was released in 2017. Written by real-life couple Emily V. Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani, this film follows an interethnic couple as they look to deal with the challenges that come with trying to blend two very different families in the name of love. Starring Nanjiani and Zoe Kazan, this film also features the considerable talents of Holly Hunter, Ray Romano and Adeel Akhtar, all of whom do a fabulous job in this heart-warming and belly laughing movie. And what makes this film even more endearing, certainly to this writer, is that it’s based on a real-life love story.

When you’re next about to embark on an hour-long search for a film, cut through the waffle and give one of this trio a try. Enjoy!
