According to Deadline, actress Alfre Woodard has nearly sealed the deal to be cast as Black Mariah on Netflix’s new Marvel series Luke Cage.  Woodard played the role of President of the United States in the NBC series State Of Affairs.  In the Marvel universe, Black Mariah is leader of the Rat Pack and a criminal gang leader.  More Black women as villains and crime bosses?  Can we say hell to the yes???

In the Deadline article Cheo Hodari Coker serves as executive producer and showrunner on the series, produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.  Coker who is also African American will be the first Black showrunner to lead a Marvel property on the small screen.  The casting announcements for Marvel just keep getting better and better!  The Luke Cage series is scheduled to launch in 2016.
