Company: Comic Republic

Job Title & Description: Artist, writer and Chief editing officer

Jamie: How long have you been working in the industry/involved in your current project?

Oz: Well I guess I’ve been in the industry for like 6 years now.. My current project title is hero generation which started back in 2011. It was created by Tobe ‘max’ ezeogu, Michael ‘balox’ Balogun and I.

Jamie: Describe why you chose the industry and the path you took to get there (education, internships, etc.).

Oz: I’ve been drawing for as long as I could hold a pen. I think the first thing I did was try to draw and not to write. For me why I chose the industry was, as small as it may seem for now, I’ve sort of felt a strong sense that i’m going to be a part of what makes it evolve.

Oz: So far, since we started the republic, I have 6 issues to my credit.

Jamie: Any lessons learned you like to share about your time in the business so far?

Oz: Working in the industry has taught me a few things, and that is the distinction between talent and skill. I was born with a talent to draw but it was only through practice and dedication that I’ve honed it into a skill and that’s one of the key things you need, to accomplish your goals in life, dedication.

Jamie: Any links to past/upcoming projects or a portfolio you’d like to share?
Oz: Well you can pretty much get everything at www.thecomicrepublic.com, I think that’s where everything major is.

Jamie: Since this series does revolve around comics, what comics are you currently reading?

Oz: Well I’m big on marvel comics and manga, right now am reading daredevil: born again by frank miller and blade of the immortal ( manga). I think I’m mostly tuned to vigilante type heroes… that usually inspires what I read.

Jamie: Any advice you’d like to pass along to someone interested in the comics industry?

Oz: If you are interested in getting into comics, be prepared because it is not going to be a bed of roses, if not, 80% of the world’s population will be doing it. But if you want it bad enough, go out and fight for it, to work day and night for it, if it defines you and captivates you then nothing can stop you from getting it, no matter how hard it may seem, your dedication will make it easy.
