Job Title & Description: Creator, artist and art director of Avonome. Also President Of Mudhouse Black.
Jamie: How long have you been working in the industry/involved in your current project?
Stanley: I have been in the industry since 2008 so that’s approximately 7 years now. My current project/title has been established over 8 years until I met Xavier Ighorodje who helped build the concept as we have it today.
Jamie: Describe why you chose the industry and the path you took to get there (education, internships, etc.).
Stanley: I have been a comic lover since my teenage days, though getting one over here back then was quite difficult so it was an hassle getting one around here. I think that was the fun part working distances to get one. Fast forward, a friend of mine introduced me to a comic studio. My jaw dropped. A comic studio in Nigeria! I couldn’t wait to check them out. We did and they offered us courses to help in boosting our art skills, seeing our enthusiasm.
Jamie: What are some highlights of your career/current job or project so far?
Stanley: There’s four actually. First, when we got signed on to Comic Republic. Two, the release of the very first issue (the pressure between 2 days before and some days after the release ( I was very nervous). Next, the positive response we got afterwards and lastly, getting awarded at the Comic Panel Awards for the Comic Book of the Year.
Jamie: Any lessons learned you like to share about your time in the business so far?
Stanley: Practice is key. Being an artist, you need to spend hours studying and polishing up your art, there isn’t any shortcuts around it.( if there is, I’d like to know)
Jamie: Any links to past/upcoming projects or a portfolio you’d like to share?
Portfolio- wise, I have got a couple.

Jamie: Since this series does revolve around comics, what comics are you currently reading?
Stanley: I’m an huge DC fan. My collection tell me so I think. *big grin*. Most especially, the art tends to capture me into the story. Recently, I just finished Superman Unchained and I’m delving into Manga books as they possess the style/action Avonome would require. One Punch Man gets me cause of its animated panelling amongst others. Shingeki No kyogin, Ao No Exorcist, Feng Shen Ji and Psycho Pass.
Jamie: Any advice you’d like to pass along to someone interested in the comics industry?
Stanley: We need more folks to build this growing industry. Come in, be resilient. The sky is just a stepping ground.
