An exciting rumor is buzzing around Hollywood and it concerns Black Girl Nerds favorite and all around badass Ernie Hudson in a Marvel property. Travel back in time with me to April 2015 when the rumor mill was swirling with talks of Hudson playing King T’Chaka to Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa.

The role of T’Chaka ultimately went to John Kani. Kani performed the role adamantly. Building up the audience perfectly as a doting father and smashing us to pieces when he was murdered. His performance put us all in a state of gut-wrenching heartbreak.

But, he also only had one film. So, Hudson might have dodged a bullet. There’s no such thing as a small role, but everyone wants to live beyond their first appearance.

According to a reliable source, Marvel and Hudson are having meetings once again. This time for the role of S’Yan, T’Chaka’s brother and T’Challa’s uncle. In the Marvel comic universe, S’Yan assumes power of Wakanda after T’Chaka is killed by Klaw, who you may remember as this guy….

However, the throne of Wakanda can’t be inherited. It has to be won in a tournament. S’Yan never wanted to be king. When T’Challa wins the fight he is named the king and assumes the mantle of Black Panther. S’Yan remains in T’Challa’s inner circle as one of Black Panther’s trusted advisors.

It’s not clear, at this time, if S’Yan would play the same role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that he had in the comics. It’s not even clear how seriously Marvel is considering casting Hudson in the role. At this point, it seems strange to think Marvel would cast anyone else in the role.

Getting Excited for 'Space Jam 2': Confirmed and Rumored Co-Stars

Hudson remains a nerd fan-favorite. He’s voiced Lucius Fox in Batman: Bad Blood and Cyborg in The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guard for DC. He’s perhaps best known for creating Winston Zeddmore in Ghostbusters, Sergeant Albrecht in The Crow, and of course Warden Leo Glynn on Oz. Every career high Hudson has had is safely in the nerd sphere. I don’t want to beg, but my god Marvel give Hudson a place on your team.
