This year’s Her Universe Fashion Show set a record for how quickly I found myself emotionally moved. The theme of this year’s show was “Dreams Coming True.”
Ashley’s dress for the evening reflected one of her favorite Disney moments: Cinderella’s transformation for the ball. Ashley also shared her personal journey with Disney, from her father’s job at Disney World to her acting roles on That’s So Raven, to her revelation she will be writing a book about making your dreams coming for Disney Publishing!
Each designer for this years show also shared personal stories about the characters and fandoms that inspired their designs.
I love the community that Ashley has created and her inspiring message to the audience. It’s been a difficult year for a lot of us and hearing Ashley declare that 2017 is “The year of dreams coming true,” really touched me. It reminded me of the wonderful opportunities I’ve experienced with the Black Girl Nerds team.
It was also a reminder to take the time to wish without boundaries and the consistent action needed to make them come true.
I recently tweeted, “I wish I could have bottled the love an magic I felt during the @HerUniverse fashion show and carry it forever.” It’s the best way I can describe the energy and support that exists at this event.
I’m so excited to see what this year’s winners come up with in their upcoming line which Ashley announced will be based on the Princesses of Disney!
Enjoy some photos of the event including the winners and the fan runway show during intermission below!
