A few months ago, Candice Frederick, Kimberly Renee, and I thought it would be pretty cool to live tweet an episode of Jem and The Holograms.  As 80s babies we were geeked over reminiscing about our favorite moments from Misfits shenanigans to Jem incessantly trying to conceal her identity as Jerrica Benton to the world.

Each and every Saturday at 7pm EST a live tweet using the Twitter hashtag #JemLiveTweet begins and several fans from the 80s animated series join us to engage in a watching an episode via Netflix instant while having a “truly outrageous” time doing it!

The #JemLiveTweet is on our list of unforgettable moments in 2013, and in 2014 the Twitter event got a mention on NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour by co-host Gene Denby of postbourgie.com

Skip through to 10 minutes towards the end of the audio clip to hear the mention.

Each and every week new followers and fans of the show join us as we geek out over some of the most memorable moments of the show.  There are times when we fangirl (or fanboy–the guys watch too) over favorite songs and other times when we express our disdain and contempt for a philandering Rio Pacheco.

This Saturday February 15 2014 will be an epic moment for BGN and the #JemLiveTweet!  We will have special guest Samantha Newark to appear during the live tweet and she will be available for a Q&A after the live tweet!

So I implore you that if you are a fan of the #JemLiveTweet and a Jem & The Holograms fan, this is an event that you do NOT want to miss!

The live tweet will commence as always at 7pm EST and lasts 22 minutes.

The Q&A with Samantha will begin at 7:30pm and ends at 8pm EST

The hashtag for the Q&A will be #AskJem you can also continue to use #JemLiveTweet too when you post questions for Samantha.

Now you will have the opportunity to ask the voice of both Jem and Jerrica herself all of those burning questions you’ve had about the series!

Jem and The Holograms first aired in 1985-1988 for three seasons.  The team that is behind Hasbro, Marvel, and Sunbow Productions co produced the episodic series along with showrunner Christy Marx.

Samantha Newwark voiced Jem and Jerrica Benton for all three seasons. Despite having toured as a child singer in Africa, she did not do the singing for Jem. The voice-over cast never auditioned for the music side of the show and vice versa. The music for Jem was all cast and recorded in New York and Atlanta and the voice-over actors were cast and recorded in Burbank, California. They matched the speaking voices of the cast to the singing voices.

Today Samantha is a Pop Electronica artist who sings in Dallas with a Pink Floyd tribute band. She licenses her original music for film and TV and her producer Dave Polich was the keyboard programmer for Michael Jackson.

Here is Samantha in live in concert for Great Gig In The Sky at Bricks In The Wall.
