Today at 2:30pm ET / 11:30am PT on Instagram live, Black Girl Nerds host Ryanne Bennett interviews Danni Washington.
Danni Washington is a Marine Biologist and science communicator advocating for protecting our planet’s most precious resource — the ocean. She has spent the last three years as a correspondent on CBS’ hit series Mission Unstoppable, where female STEM stars in action showcase the cutting edge of science. Up Next, Danni is taking Marine Biology to the podcast airwaves with “Genius Generation.”
Set to premiere February 2021, each episode focuses on a young person behind an incredible invention, entrepreneurial pursuit, and/or discovery. Washington is connecting with leaders in a variety of science disciplines on the work they are putting forth to make our world better. These are folks making life better for communities that are struggling with everyday life-such as a Flint, MI guest who created a testing trip for citizens to determine the levels of radiation levels in water. Not only making it for less but making materials accessible for people who are already disenfranchised by a flawed system.
Always inquisitive and concerned about the wellbeing of our oceans, she first discovered her love for marine life at the age of 14. At 21, she co-founded along with her mother and business partner Michelle Swaby-Smith the Big Blue & You a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and educating youth about marine conservation through the arts and media.
