Maryland-based Product Manager, Alicia Dixon, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.com. With a target goal of $1,000.00, the campaign’s purpose is to raise funds towards the purchase of Google Glass. The 15- day campaign will run through July 8th. Dixon was invited to participate in the Google Glass Explorer program as the result of the #IfIHadGlass contest run on Twitter and Google+. She is seeking funding assistance toward the requisite purchase of the hardware which costs $1,500 plus tax. Dixon’s tweet was among the 8,000 winning entries selected for an invitation to the program. Her winning tweet stated: “#ifIhadGlass I would simply make everyone else who doesn’t have it jealous. As a self-professed blerd, a black nerd, Dixon hopes to share her experiences as an African-American woman working in the technology industry with others who weren’t lucky enough to be selected as one of the Glass Explorers. In addition, Dixon plans to innovate with Glass by creating a mobile application that will operate as a virtual personal assistant. The new application would save time and lower stress for traveling workers juggling a full calendar. Any funds contributed over the purchase price for Glass will be used to finance the mobile application development. “I’m very excited about this opportunity and hope that the community will help support making it happen,” says Dixon. “A very limited number of people were given this chance, so I want to make sure to do something worthwhile with mine.” Donations to the campaign can be made at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/just-1-blerd-with-glass/x/2999363.
