The episode picks up with Kateanay (Wes Studi) and Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton) on following Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) and Hecate (Sarah Greene)’s trail. As they move on, Sir Malcolm addresses Kateanay’s determination to get Ethan as he fashions a spear out of a branch. Kateaney says he’ll gladly kill people to keep hell from attacking Ethan.

Ahead of the pair, Hecate inquires as to why Ethan’s father wants him so much. He says his father wants him to pay for his sins, and she questions his faith in God, by remarking that the almighty has forsaken him after making him his chosen wolf.

Back at Bedlam asylum in London, Henry Jekyll (Shazad Latif)  and Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway) attempt to prolong the effects of Jekyll’s serum by injecting an electrified dosage into his subject’s brain through his eyes. Victor flips a switch and electricity can be seen passing through wires into the specialized needle he’s crafted.

Looking on at the frightened patient, Victor promises to erase his lust for sin and even his memories of it, which he claims truly makes the man a monster.

In New Mexico, the U.S. Marshall Franklin Ostow (Sean Glider) and Inspector Bartholomew Rusk (Douglas Hodge) set up camp for the night. As they and their team get ready, Rusk is asked how he lost his arm, and he explains his perilous war story that left him with one hand.

Across the way, Ethan and Hecate trade stories of their upbringing. Hecate reveals she wasn’t always evil — she was an equestrian rider and her mother sacrificed her to Lucifer at age 5.

Ethan recounts how his father sent him to war and after killing a tribe of Apache Indians, he turned on his commanding officer (and best friend) and killed him too. He then went to the Apaches and begged for death.

Simultaneously, Kateaney continues the story with Sir Malcolm, saying he thought it best to let Ethan live with his guilt and inducted him into the Apache tribe to kill the white men, who hunted them. Eventually, the natives died out but not before coming “monstrous” things.

Hecate tells Ethan that God laughed at them, and says he can help them create a world with Lucifer — and she’d be right at his side.

Hecate looks out to see the rangers camp fire and asks if she should demonstrate her power by unleashing demons to get rid of their pursuers. Ethan accepts.

Cutting Ethan’s hand for blood, Hecate chants an incantation into the sand, sending rattlesnakes to the rangers. As this happens, Sir Malcolm and Kateanay sneak up on the men to kill them and steal their horses.

In the melee, Kateaney sees the snake making to strike the man he’s about to kill. While he kills both man and snake, another serpent bites him. Sir Malcolm shoots the man overseeing the horses and both men make off with a couple steeds.  Inspector Rusk and the Marshall shoot at the men as they get away.

The snakes retreat and in the distance, Hecate holds onto Ethan’s hand, reveling in her work.

Back at Bedlam, Victor and Henry look over Victor’s work. The subject remains catatonic and Henry becomes enraged as he talks of Victor’s possible failure and the mad scientists being outcasts in their years at medical school. Victor tells his friend to keep his temper in check if he ever intends to be a successful doctor.

Moments later, the subject awakens with no recollection of his crime and appears especially docile. The doctors look on wonder.

The next morning, Inspector Rusk looks over the body count with the Marshal. He resolves to kill Ethan for all the trouble he’s caused.

Following a successful test trial, Victor heads back to his lab and smells Lily’s old gown. He dumps it in the wash and cleans up the lab and the loft with renewed hope.

Ethan takes Hecate to a cave and tells her how the story of the Apache was created: Coyote spreads darkness across the world and creatures of the night take over until a boy is born and reclaims the day. The boy’s name is Apache and so the tribe named themselves after him.

Kateanay’s snake bite begins to affect him, and he tells Sir Malcolm to carry on his task in case he dies. He explains how important it is to get to Ethan as he’s had a vision of abandoned streets with creatures of the night and Ethan among them. He tells Sir Malcolm that if they lose Ethan to the darkness, night will be endless.

Having listened to Ethan’s tale, Hecate says the story is a prophecy of the world’s end and asks Ethan if he’s the man to reclaim the day or the wolf of the night. He recalls going to his father’s ranch to obtain weapons and killing so many.

As he talks about it, he grows tired of his guilt and intends to send his father to hell upon returning to the ranch. He kisses Hecate and as the two have sex, she tells him to offer himself up to Lucifer as his animal when he kills his father.

Ethan and Hecate trek through the desert. One horse collapses and Ethan kills it.

Finally, the two are without a horse and Hecate collapses from heat and dehydration. As they sit together, Sir Malcolm sees them. Ethan is beyond surprised and drinks the water Malcolm hands to him.

Malcolm sees Hecate and pulls the gun on her. As he does, Ethan draws his gun. Eventually, Malcolm puts his gun down, and as he does so, a gang of men surround them. The crew was sent by Ethan’s father and they take Ethan, Malcolm, and Hecate. When they come across Kateanay, Ethan tells the men to leave Kateanay in the desert to die slowly.

At Talbot ranch, Ethan is looked after by his father, Jared Talbot (Brian Cox). When Ethan awakes, his father welcomes him home.

Eventually, Sir Malcolm wakes up and makes his way outside to speak with Jared. They have a chat about Ethan living in his home and Malcolm explains he hired Ethan to track down his daughter, who unfortunately died.

Jared then questions Sir Malcolm about the “Apache filth” Kateanay, and Jared reminds Sir Malcolm they are very much alike — adventurers with a sense of duty to family.

He ultimately tells Sir Malcolm he has plans for Ethan and no one will stand in his way.

Once Ethan leaves his room, he is met by his father who walks him through the house and into the chapel to describe the night Ethan brought the Apaches to their home. According to Jared, Kateanay and his tribesman killed his son (Ethan’s brother), scalped his wife (Ethan’s mother), and then blinded his daughter (Ethan’s sister) before cutting out her tongue.

Jared tells his son to repent, and then pulls a gun on him as added incentive to atone for killing his family.
