‘Rayven Choi’ Graphic Novel Attracts International Audience as Book #2 Set to Debut at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo

Following a first release eBook and film trailer last month, Shequeta L. Smith’s six-part graphic novel series, “Rayven Choi,” is off to a running start. With strong audiences for the trailer and a newly released Korean language eBook, success is definitely on the horizon for this multimedia mosaic.
The graphic novel series addresses diversity head-on as a young African-American heroine carries the lead role in a Kill Bill-esque revenge plot. The trailer, launched on Facebook and YouTube on July 20th, has passed 200,000 views, attracting attention from potential film producers and fans alike.
Expecting the story to mainly resonate with women, Smith has surprisingly found that the majority viewership of the trailer has been men between the ages of 25-34. Most of these men are hailing from the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Africa.
“I think it’s pretty vindicating to see a young African-American female action hero, so it means a lot to see the project doing so well with men,” Ms. Smith said. Plus Rayven’s got the international angle so we’re looking forward to exploring the overseas market,” she said.
The layer of international interest originates in Korea where Rayven is adopted and raised by a Korean family, making her a foreigner in her native land.
The English eBook was released July 20th and quickly reached the #1 spot on Amazon’s Hot New Releases. The Korean language version was released on August 15th.
Physical copies of the English language book go on sale Labor Day weekend on the Shero Comics website. The already completed book two is set to launch in late October at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo in Los Angeles where the fourteen-minute short film will also make its’ premiere.
