In 1989, Ricky teaches Suzette how to drive a stick but she struggles. Selena encourages her to learn because once that CBS deal comes in, she will be able to buy her own car. AB and his now wife Vangie (Gladys Bautista), the fan from the previous episode, talk about how they will cope with a baby on the way when they are on tour. They live next door to his sisters and parents, who are discussing the possibility of the deal and how much it is worth.
The band packs up to go to the TMA’s but have to wait for Roger who had a family emergency. That is unfortunate for him, but his words seem to hit home with AB. Selena y Los Dinos win and perform at the TMA and are spotted by Jose Behar. Jose is vice president of EMI Records Latin Division and tries his best to talk to Selena. Abraham sits down to talk to Jose about what he can offer. Jose gives a pretty good elevator speech and an enticing initial offer.
While on the road, Roger’s child is struggling with a high fever. Roger taking time to check on his family seems to be conflicting with their scheduled play time. Los Bad Boys are still opening up for Selena y Los Dinos. That’s nice. Roger decides to leave the band to take care of his wife and child. I’m not mad at that, even if the band is still touring. I wonder if AB will do the same.
On the bus, Suzette brings up that there are people making T-shirts of the band and the family should do it. The girls find out that Roger quit the band and talk to Abraham about it. He tells them he is not taking the deal with CBS and will be talking to the EMI company instead. Again, it is up to AB to find a new guitarist for the band. The boy has a family to think of. While on their way home, Selena talks to Abraham about how the band not getting the deal could be her fault. Abraham ensures her that it is not her fault, just that she deserves more.
At home, Selena surprises her family with news of her getting her high school diploma. Automatically, the siblings bring up their new deal and money. Abraham does his best to calm their worries. The next day, he finds out that EMI wants the band to go by “Selena,” dropping “y Los Dinos” because it won’t go well in the English market. He agrees. During dinner, the family anxiously wait to hear about how the meeting went. They are ecstatic to hear they are under a label but are worried about the band being dropped. Suzette and Selena go car window-shopping after dinner. Marcella finds Abraham listening to old records of Los Dinos. The two discuss the deal with EMI. Marcella reminds him to trust his gut.
Vangie is seven months along, but she goes along on the tour with them. Abraham has the band stop to meet with Joe (Carlos Alfredo Jr.) and Pete (Julio Macias), aka Los Bad Boys. Vangie doesn’t get off initially, I wonder why. The announcement is that the two young men won’t be opening for them anymore but are joining the band. Suzette looks concerned about this at first. Curious.
AB checks out a band and talks to a potential guitarist who is unsure about leaving his current act. Sounds like he is loyal to them. Suzette questions Abraham on why there are new people in the band and how the logistics will work with them all. Abraham insists that it is to make things easier for Selena, so she doesn’t have to sing everything. Suzette’s concern is that the family no longer discusses things and things are getting bigger, but Abraham tells her it is still just the family.
As the band plays, we see Suzette getting her license, AB and Vangie having their child, and that guitarist who AB spoke to watching them play.
