Social Distance Ep 4
Spread the love

April 22, 2020: Folding laundry is becoming a hard task for a father (Peter Scanavino) to get through with a young son (Leo Bai-Scanavino) as a sick mother watches from a video call. Son says the socks are leaf people and tells a story about them, which we get to see.

Mom (Ali Ahn) coughs, which prompts Dad to ask if she can eat the soup, but she is unable to and asks for Dad to get it. Son runs to help but luckily Dad catches him in time. Son is upset with Dad but he sits and talks to Mom about all he has learned while he tries to put on gloves. Dad asks son to sit and fold while he gets candid with Mom on how her health is declining and she’s not eating. Mom does not want to risk dying alone in a hospital and prefers the sounds of home. She goes to sleep. I don’t think I can cope seeing a death on this show. It may break me.

Social Distance Ep 4

Animation: Dad catches Son playing with crackers that he found near Mom’s soup. He insists that Son washes his hands then explains what germs are and how the antibodies are fighting to help. Dad listens to a voicemail sent by his parents. They sound like they are trying to help but no bueno.

Dad calls his sister Lisa (Tami Sagher), where we find out that Mom’s name is Anne-Marie, Son is Trevor, and Dad is Greg. He unloads how he is spiraling and can’t believe that they chose his parents to take care of Trevor. Lisa is shocked that Greg is telling Trevor that Mom is unsafe and very sick; she suggests that he makes everything more sugar coated for Trevor to handle things.

Social Distance Ep 4

Greg tries to call Anne-Marie while he and Trevor are in the bathroom trying to wash clothes in the bathtub because the washer is broken.

Animation: Greg explains the virus to Trevor as a legend. We watch as Trevor’s animated self does his best to understand the curse, where it came from, and how to not get cursed. In the end Trevor seems to get it.

Greg hops on his computer and tries to play a game but hears Anne-Marie cough, which prompts him to search creating a will, taking his wife to the ER, how to do CPR, the amount of deaths in the state of Michigan, and how kids cope with the death of both parents.

Social Distance Ep 4

Trevor wails and cries in his room for his mommy. Greg comes in to comfort him, but Trevor knows the curse took Mommy. Greg calls Anne-Marie, which calms Trevor down a bit as she explains that no curse took Mommy and Daddy doesn’t believe in curses. She sings a song to Trevor until he falls asleep. Greg and Anne-Marie talk about how the curse came about and what decisions Greg has made in case anything happens to them both. Anne-Marie asks to be taken back to Trevor’s room to watch him and Greg fall asleep. The song she sang plays as an animation of Trevor flying over a land of people smiling and having fun.

A few episodes in, and I am in tears. You can’t put a child in front of me and expect me not to feel a thing when all they want is their parents. We don’t get to find out what happened with Anne-Marie but I do hope many get to hug their children tonight and all recover from this virus.
