So, The Usual Suspects. I honestly can’t think of a better way to start an evening of live tweeting craziness before the holiday insanity starts.

At first glance, 1995’s The Usual Suspects came off as a dark heist movie with a cast of rag-tag characters. However, director Bryan Singer (of X-Men and House fame) gave us what is now a classic bait and switch thriller. Shoot, 21 years later “usual suspects” has become a catchphrase to describe the crew you run with, and we’ve referred to at least one person we know as Keyser Söze. I actually named 2 of the catfish in my tank “Keyser” and “Söze” because they would disappear under the gravel for days on end and then just appear out of nowhere like “hey, we’ve been here the whole time.”

But, I digress….

The Usual Suspects bring us to a gritty New York City where a group of criminals plan a heist that goes horribly wrong. This is why when start hearing about a larger-than-life figure, known as Keysey Söze, who may be at the center of a huge gun fight that kills a ton of people. This powerhouse cast which includes such acting greats as Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Spacey, and Benicio Del Toro acted their asses off.

Here’s a great example of these actors doing what they do best, and one of my favorite scenes from the movie:

I first saw this movie at home with my former roommate who knew the ending; she didn’t say a word and watched my reaction at the end when I realized what had happened. Since then, only the Sixth Sense, The Departed and the first episode of This is Us has caused me to physically react and scream, “HOLY SHIT!” as the credits rolled.

So, I will officially say, this is on my personal Top 5. What say you?
