The numbers are out and according to several reports, Marvel’s Black Panther is expected to rake in between $100 million and $120 million President’s Day weekend. As you may recall, managing editor of Fandango, Erik Davis tweeted the following about the purchase of Fandango tickets for the site.
Big news this morning – #BlackPanther sold more advance tickets on @Fandango in its first 24 hours than any other MCU movie, besting previous record holder Captain America: Civil War. Long live the King! pic.twitter.com/JL1c28AgWm

It seems to me the $100 million dollar guesstimate may be a bit modest and we could likely see way more than that. The movie Black Panther has received massive buzz long before production began and the momentum hasn’t stopped. According to The Hollywood Report, if tracking is correct, Black Panther will come in ahead of stand-alone Marvel pic Doctor Strange, which posted a three-day debut of $85 million in November 2016. It would also be the biggest opening of 2018 to date.
With the traction this film is getting, it is likely Black Panther may be the highest grossing Marvel movie to date.
Black Panther releases in theaters nationwide February 16th
