The legacy of the Chase family lingers in Orlando, Florida at Walt Disney World resort as the launch of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is quickly approaching. In a group interview, Edgar “Dook” Chase IV, who is the executive chef of Dooky Chase Restaurant in New Orleans, discussed the significance of New Orleans culture and how immersive this experience will be when patrons check out some of the delicious spices available at Magic Kingdom park in Walt Disney World.
In a group interview with members of the press, Edgar “Dook” Chase discussed how Tiana’s Bayou Adventure connects to the legacy of his family’s restaurant and to their community.
“When you’re on the ride, you’ll not only see the community going but you’ll see on the tower, ‘never ever forget what’s really important’ and that’s our culture and our traditions,” says Chase.
Chase is the grandson of Leah and Dooky Chase. Leah Chase’s story served as the inspiration behind the animated Disney film The Princess and the Frog. In 1941, when Dooky Chase’s Restaurant opened its doors, it opened with the intention of providing good food to the New Orleans community.
Chase also believes strongly in the spirit of community. “As our community gets better, we get better, there is no choice. How is our community getting better? If they’re growing, we have to grow,” he adds.
Edgar “Dook” Chase sees this moment as something that this celebrates the people that came before him. It’s a celebratory moment indeed as not only the first Black Disney princess is getting her own amusement ride, but new products and dishes inspired by the film will be available for Disney patrons at Magic Kingdom park. The experience will give kids and adults a chance to have fun, learn New Orleans culture and perhaps get a dose of some history about the legacy of Leah Chase and her journey of entrepreneurship. As well as Dooky Chase and how his name is indelibly labeled on merchandise that is sold in many stores outside of The Big Easy.
You can experience the magic and wonder of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Walt Disney World on June 28th.
