There’s a distinctly western vibe to how Han Solo is portrayed in the latest trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story. He’s a gunslinger, or I guess a blaster-slinger in this universe, on the outside of the law. He describes himself as a driver and a flyer in the trailer. He has been waiting for an opportunity like the one Woody Harrelson offers him. This trailer drives home that this will be a heist film and his particular brand of skills are needed.
What’s more interesting, to me at least, are the bits we see of Lando Calrissian as portrayed by Donald Glover. “He’s the best smuggler around,” Emilia Clarke says of him. “Everything you heard about me is true,” he says of himself. We get to see more of him in piloting the Falcon and his droid companion. He’s cool, smooth and confident. He’s what we expect of Lando.
The trailer comes on the heels of news that the film will make its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. “I have a really good feeling about this,” says Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo. Let’s hope the film lives up to the hype of the trailer. Solo: A Star Wars Story is directed by Ron Howard. It stars Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Paul Bettany, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Thandie Newton, Donald Glover and Alden Ehrenreich. It hits theaters May 25.
