Last Friday Marvel graced us with a teaser trailer of Black Panther, which garnered an amazing 89 million views in 24 hours. The good news just keeps coming as it was recently reported by Deadline that Danai Gurira will be joining the cast of Avengers: Infinity War. Gurira plays Okoye, a member of the Dora Milaje, a group of women that serve as bodyguards for T’Challa, King of Wakanda and the Black Panther. The Dora Milaje are chosen from each of the tribes in Wakanda and Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia and Gurira’s Okoye serve as the first members of the newly instated group in the Marvel 616 universe.
It’s been rumored that Infinity Wars will feature a trip to Wakanda and that Shuri, T’Challa’s sister will also make an appearance in the movie. Director Ryan Coogler described Shuri as being ‘on par with Iron Man’s Tony Stark’ in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. Considering that Stark usually makes it into the top 5 of everyone’s list of Smartest Marvel characters, that’s saying a lot. Let’s hope we get to see them interact.
Black Panther will be in theaters next February with Avengers: Infinity War premiering summer 2018. Don’t forget to check out Liz & Shenee react to the Black Panther trailer video!
