The Urban Nerd Con is a multicultural fan comic, gaming, cosplay and tech event. Designed to provide creators of African descent across the diaspora an opportunity to showcase their work to fans of all backgrounds, it’s also where fans can come to see – and buy – the best independent artwork, comics, novels and games from the “Defenders of the Diaspora.”
Fans will be able to take advantage of several tracks of programming, including panels on horror, Sci-Fi, comics, cosplay, voice acting and other subjects near to a nerd’s heart. There are also over 70 vendors of all types that will be selling their original content!
Boasting the largest number of African-American and Hispanic celebrities, voice actors, producers and creators at one event, The Urban Nerd Con will not only celebrate those who don’t always see the bright lights but will also open mainstream fans eyes to some of their most beloved characters and stories that were created, directed or voiced by African-Americans!
In the spirit of cultivating our next generation of nerds, TUNC will provide “Con Bucks” so that young attendees can leave with a memory from our vendors. Fans can donate “Con Bucks” in $25 increments at the same time they purchase their badges.
“This Con was created to celebrate characters and creators of African Descent as well as other marginalized POC in this space, but it is definitely an event that everyone is encouraged and welcomed to attend! This will open fans eyes to countless worlds of characters and creators they never imagined as well as showing the impact that Creators of color have impacted the stories and characters they know and love!” says Roy M. Eavins II, Executive Director and Founder of The Urban Nerd Con.
