Warner Bros. dropped the second Aquaman trailer today, which is full of backstory on the hero. In it, fans get to see Arthur Curry (Aquaman’s alter ego) as a baby with mother Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) and for the first time, his father Thomas.
Like Jason Mamoan as Arthur Curry, Thomas is played by an actor of color which departs from the comics. The Aquaman in The New 52 is a white man with blonde hair. His father is white as well. In the film, Thomas is a brown-skinned, indigenous man, played by Maori actor from New Zealand, Temeura Morrison.
Parents will remember Morrison’s voice as that of Chief Tui in Moana. Gamers may recognize his voice as that of Boba Fett in Star Wars: Battlefront.
Take a look at the trailer and see the backstory for the next DC hero of color to command the big screen.
