Tell us about yourself! What do you do for Black Girl Nerds?
I am Caron – I use my voice in every conceivable way. I am a journalist, I am the host of CARONISMShow on 1001TheHeat Radio, where I talk and play love, I am a professional voice artist and audiobook narrator, classical musician – oh, and I am a disabled veteran and a hot granny. I am one of the amazing co-hosts of the BGN Podcast and culture & entertainment contributor

What are you passionate about? What do you enjoy?
I’m passionate about people. And men. And tech. And science. And shiny things. And squishy babies. I enjoy long walks on the beach, fast cars and trolling my children on social media.

Women’s History Month to me means…
It means one month out of the year we get to acknowledge what we’ve known all along – that we do every damn thing. We all have and make history in our own way. My story as a woman vet is archived in the Library of Congress, I am proud to officially be part of American history – but it wasn’t for my accomplishments or brilliance, or that I Katherine Johnson’ed the curriculum for an entire population of the Navy (rewrote, as a hidden figure) or even that I am one of the few women in military history to have served in 2 branches of the armed forces, but because I was homeless after all that. So there’s that.

What are you nerding about currently?
Storytelling and all the toys and gadgets that help me do it better. And real estate because I want to buy a house. The history and engineering of my car. Boys.

Where can we find you on social media?

Kay-B

Tell us about yourself! What do you do for Black Girl Nerds?
I am a podcaster and writer! I do interviews with people for all walks and backgrounds, and write about TV or press events!

What are you passionate about? What do you enjoy?
I am passionate about people living their dreams and making a difference while doing so. I am passionate about people helping people and seeing diversity in every aspect of every industry. I enjoy great art, whether that be in the form of TV, films, or music. I enjoy traveling, because seeing the world and experiencing new cultures are my form of self care and relaxation.

Women’s History Month to me means…
Women’s History Month means celebrating the hard work and progress we have made, and also the next steps we have to take to push ahead even more. It means reflecting on the greats that came before us, but also creating new plans and ways to press forward that would make them proud. It means never giving up in the face of adversity, and never settling for less than what we deserve.

What are you nerding about currently?
The Flash, every single week. Logan and Beauty & the Beast, both coming out in theaters over the next 3 weeks.

Where can we find you on social media?
@LadyKayB21 on Twitter!

Cherra

Tell us about yourself! What do you do for Black Girl Nerds?
I mainly write comic recaps/reviews (Jem and the Holograms regularly), but I also conduct interviews occasionally. One day I’ll work up the courage to participate in a podcast.

What are you passionate about? What do you enjoy?
I am passionate about lots of things…travel, movies, TV, comics, science, and music. I won’t get into specifics because this would turn into a 10 page answer. I am most obsessive about music and travel. Any opportunity to combine the two is #1 on my priority list (Iceland Airwaves 2017 anyone?). I collect vinyl and keep all my concert ticket stubs.

Women’s History Month to me means…
To me, Women’s History Month means a time to celebrate women and embrace feminism. That should happen 24/7 and 365, but Women’s History Month is a time to seek out new knowledge. Learn about women you didn’t know about before…find hidden figures and celebrate them.

What are you nerding about currently?
The Wonder Woman movie. It’s all I can think about right now. I’m re-reading v2 and 600 to calm my nerves and I’m hoping for the best. I will be livid if it’s not good.

Tell us about yourself! What do you do for Black Girl Nerds?
I write for the website, mostly comic book reviews. I also do interviews and roundtables for the the podcast. Last year, I started covering conventions (which allowed me to meet Peter Capaldi!!).

What are you passionate about? What do you enjoy?
Science fiction and fantasy in general. I love the Star Wars universe – movies, books, shows. I’ve been campaigning hard to talk to John Boyega. Probably spend too much on comic books and definitely spend too much at any convention artist alley. Also passionate about: my podcast- Nerds of Prey, how intricate and beautiful the universe is, the deep ocean and the freaky things that live down there, costume design (don’t get me started on Eiko Ishioka), 80s fantasy movies, and most recently, figure skating (thank you Yuri!! on Ice).

Women’s History Month to me means…
celebrating the women who inspire and support me.

What are you nerding about currently?
The Expanse. I love detailed world building and this show more than delivers.

Tell us about yourself! What do you do for Black Girl Nerds?
I live in Inglewood, CA with my husband, Rob, my mother, and my seven (yikes) kitties.  I have a BA in English and Theater, and a law degree.  I never practiced law, but I did do theater for decades. Now I run Running Lady Studios and produce animated shorts.

I have been a fan of BGN for years, but recently joined as a West Coast correspondent.  So far I’ve covered and written articles about entertainment industry press conferences, advance movie screenings, and celebrity interviews.  I’ve also done some “live tweeting” and recently I joined BGN’s video production team, as well!

What are you passionate about? What do you enjoy?
I love storytelling. When I was little, I used to tell my brothers stories I made up starring our favorite superheroes or television characters, and weave us into the tale.  When I grew up, I started doing theater, first as an actress, but ultimately as a director because I realized I wanted to do more than be in the story, I wanted to help craft the story. Whether I’m directing, writing or producing, I love creating.

I like movies, especially old movies, and reading, mostly sci-fi. On the more personal side, I love spending time with my husband and family, friends and my cats.

Women’s History Month to me means…
A chance to discover, celebrate, and share the stories of women that have been lost, forgotten, or purposefully buried, and a chance for all women to reach out to each other and open our minds to understand to the unique challenges that face each of us.

What are you nerding about currently?

The perfect movie, Get Out; re-watching all 7 seasons of The West Wing and 5 seasons of Daria to cope with the current political scene; working with Black Girl Nerds!

Where can we find you on social media?
On Twitter @mariavah;  Facebook and YouTube – RunningLadyStudios

C.R.

Tell us about yourself! What do you do for Black Girl Nerds?
I am an editor and contributor to the website, which is a kickass online lifestyle magazine that I adored before I was ever involved and am so proud to be part of the team now.

What are you passionate about? What do you enjoy?
I am quite passionate about the idea of an anti-oppression, spiritual humanist society with a baseline of collectivism that still makes ample room for individuality and celebrates complexity.

Women’s History Month to me means…
WHM is a dedicated time to focus on the challenges, triumphs, and history of womanhood. I give full-throated love and support to the sisterhood all year round but it’s nice to have a month to be intentional.

What are you nerding about currently?
Mass Effect: Andromeda, the Final Fantasy 7 remake, The Dark Tower movie, The Expanse, Star Trek: Timelines, and The 100

Where can we find you on social media?
@wordyblerd on twitter and Instagram even though I have nothing on the latter right now lol

Tell us about yourself! What do you do for Black Girl Nerds?
I’m resident smart ass. Just kidding, I’m the social media curator for both the Black Girl Nerds main Twitter and BGNPodcast page. Along with the Facebook.

What are you passionate about? What do you enjoy?
I’m passionate about helping people promote themselves and build their audience. But outside of my marketing work, I love video games and expanding my ever growing pop culture knowledge by indulging in way too much Netflix.

Women’s History Month to me means…
Honoring the work of the women that came before me. We still have so far to go before we are seen as complete equals to men, and the women that came before us put in the work. It’s up to us to continue and carry their legacy.

What are you nerding about currently?
O V E R W A T C H. Still. I will probably forever nerd out over this game.

Tell us about yourself! What do you do for Black Girl Nerds?
I’m a contributing writer and social media correspondent for BGN. I review books, Korean dramas, and Conventions for the site, and co-host Anime Live Tweet with @wildyoungcharm.

What are you passionate about? What do you enjoy?
The majority of my time is occupied by photography and activism for social justice and environmental causes, which are what I enjoy doing most. Social justice and environmentalism intersect in every aspect of our lives (especially pop culture!), so there is always work to do and stories to tell on a variety of different subjects and mediums. Marginalized groups of people deserve a more equitable future, full of representation through stories that allow us to be characters with nuance, and the only way to get there is to continue sharing stories.

Women’s History Month to me means…
Discovering women who typically don’t get enough love on a daily basis in the mainstream media. It’s beautiful when so many corners of the internet (who are already telling these excellent stories) get to shine for all the ways they amplify the voices of women that often go overlooked. Women’s History Month, to me, is about getting more of the general public to notice that these amazing women exist.

What are you nerding about currently?
Currently, I’m hard-core obsessing over Image’s “Monstress” & “Red Thorn” comics, Jane the Virgin, and Welcome to Night Vale.

I am a guest blogger and do con coverage!

What are you passionate about? What do you enjoy?
I am a Whovian!!! I love all things Doctor Who. My favorite companions are Martha, River, and the Ponds. I do not have a favorite Doctor anymore; I love something different about each of them. My reading preferences are in Afro-futurism, Urban fantasy, and Urban suspense (yeah, there is definitely a trend here, lol). I read mostly Image and Marvel comics, but love the DC shows on the CW. My favorite authors are L.A. Banks and N.K. Jemison. My favorite books, however, are The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. I am a pretty eclectic nerd!

Women’s History Month to me means…
A time to revel in all things feminine! I love reflecting on the intelligent, strong women that paved the way for the rest of us. My heroes are Ida B. Wells, Harriet Tubman, and my grandma!

What are you nerding about currently?
I am honestly nerding out about all the beautiful blackness in cinema right now and soon to come. I am not usually into movies, but with things like Get Out, A Wrinkle in Time, and Black Panther, how could I not be! Also, the Birthright series and Saga from Image comics are life!!!

Women’s History Month to me means…
Intersectional feminism front & center; celebrating intersectional women content creators & history makers past and present.
