On the heels of TwitchCon Amsterdam in July 2022, TwitchCon returned to San Diego this past weekend with thousands of streamers and members of the community contributing in-person to the sold-out event, with select events live streamed to audiences globally.
TwitchCon San Diego 2022 was sold out, with nearly 30,000 people in attendance – which is nearly 20% growth over 2019.
Over three million people tuned into TwitchCon San Diego livestreams the entire weekend.
During the Opening Ceremony keynote, Twitch CEO and Co-founder Emmett Shear discussed the imminent full rollout of Twitch’s charity fundraising tool and of Guest Star next month. He also discussed the wider rollout of lower payout thresholds to the US, which will enable streamers to get paid faster. Watch the full VOD here.
Twitch streamers BiqtchPuddin and DEERE hosted TwitchCon’s Drag Showcase, which resulted in standing ovations for electrifying performances from well-known Queens on Twitch: Rose Evergreen, BiddyBeeDrag, dragtrashly, LondynBradshaw, MYNXqueen Watch the full VOD here (begin halfway at 2:00:00).
Megan Thee Stallion headlined the TwitchCon Party presented by Amazon Games on Saturday night – where she had heads spinning when Master Chief from Halo joined her on stage for a live twerk session to “Freak Nasty.” Earlier in the evening, Kim Petras and Meet Me @ the Altar opened the show.
Patch Notes Live: Hosts RayApollo and Zachariusd held an IRL version of our monthly Patch Notes show, where we discuss key product updates and launches with our community. For this special TwitchCon edition of the show, Twitch executives Mike Minton, Chief Product Officer; Alison Huffman, VP of Product, Community Health; and Tom Verrilli, Chief Product Officer shared our product priorities and long-term strategies for monetization, safety, and discovery. Twitch Rivals was in full force this weekend, with meet-ups, games and tournaments taking place inside the Twitch Rivals Arena, presented by Verizon. The weekend concluded with a Victory Royale in Fortnite’s Zero Build mode, crowning Palermo, itrol_ and Fakkz_ as the winning trio, followed by the Ultimate Challenge Gauntlet where 16 duo teams were faced with IRL games and Averagejonas and Britanni emerged as the Gauntlet champs.
Cosplay Contest Presented by Crown Channel: On Saturday, cosplayers hit the Glitch Theater stage to compete for the top spot in various categories. Hosted by JaharaJayde and Krystina Arielle, streamers competed in cosplay inspired by games including Overwatch, Borderlands, Monster Hunter, Black Panther and more. Ultimately, GinozaCostuming dominated the competition, winning the Grand Prize as well as the Larger Than Life category, earning the new champion title and $15,000.
Foodbeast’s Kitchen League Battle Royale: Gamers and Chefs teamed up for a sizzling battle of culinary wits in the world’s first live extreme cooking challenge. Hosted by Elie Poo of Foodbeast fame, participants included neeko, TheHungerService and more. The final round saw a Cage Match Cookoff for the ultimate burrito pitting Dream and PizzaPrincessG against GeorgeNotFound and Chef Steve, and GeorgeNotFound and Chef Steve were crowned as the culinary kings of TwitchCon 2022.
