John Cena is starring in Peacemaker, a newly ordered tv show currently slated for 8 episodes in the first season with Suicide Squad director James Gunn writing all of them.

The series was ordered by HBO Max and will begin production as early as Aug. 6, 2021. The exact plot is still unclear, but an adventure comedy approach is being taken towards it and will be exploring the origins of Peacemaker

Peacemaker is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag,” said Gunn. “I’m excited to expand The Suicide Squad and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series. And of course, to be able to work again with John, Peter, and my friends at Warner Bros. is the icing on the cake.”

Cena will be starring as well as co-executive producing alongside Gunn.

“I have said before that it has been a tremendous honor and an incredible opportunity to be part of The Suicide Squad and to work with James on what is going to be a fantastic movie,” Cena said. “I am unbelievably excited to have the chance to team up with him again for Peacemaker. We can’t wait for fans to see this.”

Cena is known for being in the WWE, he also has four productions on the way in the form of The Janson Directive, Vacation Friends, Project X-Traction, and The Suicide Squad. James Gunn is recognized for writing both GOTG (Guardians of the Galaxy) but is also working on a new Starksy and Hutch Series. He also holds 15 wins and 11 nominations on IMDB accompanied with 33 writing credits. Its safe to assume that a new series in these two hands is bound to be a hit.

Not only is Cena excited, but the chief content officer for HBO and HBO Max has full faith in the team.
