Hip-hop artist Megan Thee Stallion continues to bless us with banger after banger, but more often than not, she also surprises with yet another one of her incredible anime cosplays. It’s not unheard of for artists to love a particular type of medium, but we have to admit that it’s rare for artists to incorporate their love for anime in their music like Megan does — let alone dress as her favorite anime characters.

That’s right, Megan Thee Stallion has been a loud and proud anime fan throughout her career. In fact, ever since her debut in 2018, Megan has flaunted her love for anime, which she displayed in several different ways—mainly through cosplaying her favorite characters. Here are six moments when Megan Thee Stallion cosplayed her way into our hearts by proving that she’s the ultimate anime fan.

Satoru Gojo — Jujutsu Kaisen

Megan was recently seen in Tokyo at the 2024 Crunchyroll Awards, where she was the presenter for the Anime of the Year award. The award went to Jujutsu Kaisen, so Megan went dressed as one of its characters, Satoru Gojo, in tribute. She wore a black leather zip-up crop top, black leather pants, a platinum blonde waist-long wig, and black shades.

Winning the Anime of the Year award while also receiving accolades for Best Action and Best Character Design, Jujutsu Kaisen hardly needs any introduction to anime fans. The anime concluded its second season in December last year; Season 3 of the anime has been confirmed, and the manga creator, Gege Akutami, has announced that the manga is expected to conclude this year.

Bruno Bucciarati — Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

Though she was seen dressed as Satoru Gojo, Megan actually presented the award dressed as Bruno Bucciarati from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. She wore a short, black bob wig with a white open-chest dress with gold accent, which was actually a really good adaptation of Bruno’s original outfit—a white, open-chest suit.

For those who aren’t familiar with Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, the anime debuted in 1987 and has since become a cultural phenomenon, known for its unique art style and interesting story. Bruno Bucciarati is one of the key characters of the anime; he’s a capo of the mafia organization who becomes an ally and mentor to Giorno Giovanna, one of the series’ protagonists.

Death the Kid — Soul Eater

Meg has also cosplayed as Death the Kid from the iconic Soul Eater anime. She stayed true to the overall aesthetics by wearing an angular-cut suit, with black hair and painted three white stripes. However, she went a step further and added a set of pointy nails and, for her photos, added art depictions of Death the Kid’s companions, Liz and Patty Thompson — admittedly, with a few touch-ups.

Soul Eater hardly needs any introduction, but it’s on its way to celebrating its twentieth birthday. Fortunately, it’s present on all well-known anime streaming services for those who didn’t watch it but want to check it out.

Boa Hancock — One Piece

If, by now, you’re fascinated by Megan Thee Stallion’s cosplay, her Instagram page is full of her cosplay photos. In one of those photos, Megan is cosplaying as Boa Hancock from One Piece. Admittedly, the outfit has been adapted to better reflect Meg’s personality, but the hairstyle, the overall vibe of the costume, and the snake motif are all there.

One Piece is a famous anime, especially since Netflix launched its amazing live-action adaptation that helped convert “normies” into nerdy anime fans, so we’ll skip the introductions. We will add that some of her cosplay photos are designed to look like physical copies of PlayStation 2’s video game box art. Maybe she’s a retro gamer as well.

Rumi Usagiyama — My Hero Academia

Megan Thee Stallion, a known fan of My Hero Academia, actually served as an inspiration for the character of Rumi Usagiyama, also known as Rabbit Hero: Mirko. This fact was revealed by one of the assistants who drew the character, and following that revelation, Stallion decided to bring the character to life. She wore a sleeveless white leotard with shiny blue trim, the cold crescent moon, and, of course, the bunny ears.

My Hero Academia has become one of the top anime series worldwide, featuring Mirko as a No. 5 Pro Hero, a very popular character among the anime fandom. The Bunny Quirk — an in-universe superpower — grants her the ability to detect danger around her and jump very high.

Yumeko Jabami — Kakegurui

As a medium, anime isn’t really short on interesting and stylish characters, which means that Meg, backed up by talented and creative stylists, isn’t really short of inspiration for her look. One of her more popular cosplays is that of Yumeko Jabami of Kakegurui. To be entirely honest, the costume is a bit modified, but the anime fans loved it nonetheless.

Kakegurui is an anime story that follows a group of students from families with strong political and monetary influence who enroll at Hyakkaou Private Academy and have their academic performance ranked based on their gambling skills.

Final Thoughts

Megan Thee Stallion has been anything but shy in her affection for anime, as seen on her social media and public appearances. We can only hope that she continues this trend and that it spreads to other artists, such as RZA — we’d love to see him cosplay as Afro Samurai, especially since he provided the soundtrack for Afro Samurai: Resurrection.
