Tonight’s 77th annual Golden Globe Awards was a star-studded presentation of the best in film and television.
The first major awards event of the year this first Sunday in January was hosted by Ricky Gervais at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, California.
Tom Hanks earned the eminent Cecile B Demille award and Ellen DeGeneres became the second recipient of the Carol Burnett Award.
Someone must have given Ricky Gervais the message that his jokes from years past have been too notoriously offensive for viewers and critics, because his jokes tonight were toned down at best and lackluster at worst. As for the winners and losers tonight, with the controversy the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has already received for its zero nomination of women directors, there were no Black winners tonight and a few wins for people of color including Awkwafina for The Farewell and Ramy Youssef for Ramy.
Big snubs of the night were Netflix’s Dolemite Is My Name and The Irishman.
