The new Captain Marvel trailer dropped and dropped jaws with it. Unlike in the first trailer, which was more of a teaser, Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) has lots to say. In true superhero fashion, she threatens, no… promises, “’I’m not going to fight your war. I’m gonna end it.”
While the first teaser set the stage for this prequel’s 1990s setting (remember Blockbuster?), this second trailer relies less on nostalgia and more on the awesome that is one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. We get to see more of the intergalactic war between two alien races, the Kree and the Skrull, with Captain Marvel at the center of it all and Earth as the battleground. We also learn that Carol’s crash landing that nearly killed her and left her without memory landed her a home with the Kree, where she was made into a noble warrior hero — stronger and more superior.
The trailer ends with a young Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) meeting and adoring a character: Carol Danvers’ cat. The cat, whose pet tag reads Goose, is already a fan favorite and source of theories thanks to the new trailer. He can’t just be a cat, can he? We’ll find out soon. Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8, 2019.
