Season 4 of The Boys is its wildest, bloodiest, most outlandish season yet and to add to its roster of eccentric supes this year is the brainiac Sister Sage played by actor Susan Heyward. A refreshing new addition to The Seven, Sage comes with her own set of skills that proves to be a huge asset for our main antagonist Homelander (Antony Starr). I’m sure you’ve heard of the phrase “listen to Black women” well in the case of Homelander and his relationship to Sage, that’s exactly what he does…he listens. Sage serves as an advisor for him due to her high-level of intelligence and ability to apply logic to any situation.
And let’s be clear here, Sister Sage is not just the smartest woman alive, she’s the smartest person alive.
It’s actually quite ironic that someone who is as narcissistic as Homelander would take executive decisions from someone who is a literal genius. However, that’s what’s always been so captivating about The Boys from season to season. The narrative operates in shades of gray and the characters are incredibly complex.
As for Heyward, she candidly admits that she was a bit jealous that her superpowers weren’t quite like the others. “People have super strength and Homelander can see through walls,” she says. However, when crafting together this character and finding what advantages she has as a supe she discusses what Sage has to offer. Heyward adds, “there is certain power in stillness.”
I would also argue there is power in telling Homelander what to do.
Susan Heyward herself is very much a fan of the series and was fully invested in The Boys since season one. She even wanted to be a part of the show while watching it with her husband. And here she is now, one of the main characters of season four who has an incredible story arc. As an appointed advisor to Homelander, Sage is also overseeing the rest of the team at Vought so they all have to listen to her. She’s basically Homelander’s second-in-command if you will.
Be sure to watch her in action when The Boys premieres the first three episodes on Prime Video June 13, 2024, followed by weekly episodes.
