Apparently, becoming a husband and father doesn’t mean you have to stop being a bad influence. At least that’s the energy Ted and John are bringing to their next adventure.
TED: The Animated Series reunites the original film franchise’s stars for a sequel that picks up twelve years after Ted 2. The animated comedy premieres with eight episodes on Thursday, December 17, with additional episodes arriving in 2027.
Seth MacFarlane returns as the voice of Ted, alongside Mark Wahlberg as his best friend and fellow thunder buddy, John. Amanda Seyfried voices John’s wife, Sam, while Jessica Barth returns as Ted’s wife, Tami-Lynn.
This time around, Ted and John are neighbors with families of their own and dead-end jobs. They’re navigating marriage, parenting, and the everyday demands of adulthood, all while continuing to encourage each other’s questionable ideas. These two have more responsibilities now, but whether they have any more sense remains an open question.
For fans of the films, the reunion brings familiar voices into a new phase of the characters’ lives. There’s plenty of comedy to mine from two longtime friends trying to handle family obligations while still acting like the person next door is their partner in every terrible plan.
Joining the returning cast are Kyle Mooney as Apollo and Liz Richman as Ruth. Details about their characters haven’t been included in the announcement, so we’ll have to wait to see how they fit into Ted and John’s world.
The series was created by MacFarlane, Paul Corrigan, and Brad Walsh, who also executive produced the live-action TED series. Corrigan and Walsh serve as co-showrunners, with animation from Rough Draft Studios, Inc.
Executive producers include MacFarlane, Corrigan, Walsh, Erica Huggins, Alana Kleiman, Jason Clark, Aimee Carlson, and Claudia Katz. The series comes from UGT, a division of Universal Studio Group, Fuzzy Door, and MRC.
With the big-screen cast back together, TED: The Animated Series is giving its central friendship a fresh set of problems. Marriage and parenting might call for maturity, but we suspect Ted and John’s approach will involve a few detours before they get there.
