The War for the Planet of the Apes film has just released a new clip featuring NOVA (played by Amiah Miller), the film’s young female protagonist. In the clip, the apes find NOVA in an abandoned shack; she wakes up amongst them (clearly confused and scared), yet struggles to form words. Caesar (voiced by Andy Serkis) reluctantly agrees to act as caretaker for NOVA, and wrestles with identifying parts of himself in her. They set off, across lush green forests and serene seascapes, with NOVA in tow. A few of the images we are treated to include machine gun fire in a snowy landscape, a gorilla gingerly placing a flower in NOVA’s hair, and NOVA giving water to a roomful of trapped apes. “She is one of us,” the voiceover says. War for the Planet of the Apes, the sure-to-be-epic third installment of the 20th Century Fox franchise, follows Caesar’s journey to retaliate against humankind. The film shows that humans and apes are preparing for the most intense war yet. The apes are fighting for their survival; the humans, to eliminate what they consider to be a genetically-engineered mistake, one that they themselves created. As Caesar says, “I did not start this war, but I will finish it.” War for the Planet of the Apes hits theaters July 14; check out the trailer below!
