Chase Infiniti is stepping into horror, and the team behind her next film already has our attention.

Lionsgate has acquired and greenlit Portrait of God, a feature project from writer-director Dylan Clark, with the Golden Globe and Emmy nominee set to star. The casting follows Infiniti’s turns in One Battle After Another and Hulu’s The Testaments, adding another intriguing project to her growing résumé.

But Infiniti isn’t the only reason this announcement has us leaning forward. Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele are joining forces as producers, marking the first collaboration between two of horror’s most influential filmmakers. Yes, you read that correctly. That is a pairing worth clearing space on the watchlist for.

Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce through Ghost House, while Peele and Win Rosenfeld will produce through Monkeypaw Productions. Joe Russo, who co-wrote the screenplay with Clark, is also producing. Clark will direct the film.

Infiniti leading a horror project backed by this creative team is especially exciting. Black women deserve room to occupy every corner of the genre, including the center of its biggest mysteries. With story details still under wraps, we don’t yet know who Infiniti will play or what terrors await her character. What we do know is that she will be front and center in a project bringing together some serious horror talent.

The announcement was made by Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, who praised Clark’s perspective and the filmmakers assembled around him.

“We’re delighted to deepen our creative partnership with Dylan Clark, whose remarkable talent and distinctive perspective make him one of the most exciting emerging voices in horror,” Fogelson said. “With Sam and Jordan, two of the genre’s most influential producers, the extraordinary Chase Infiniti starring, and Dylan at the helm, this is an exceptional creative team. We believe they have all the ingredients for a film that is haunting, thought-provoking, and scary as hell.”

“Scary as hell” is quite the promise. Horror fans will absolutely be holding them to that.

Portrait of God also expands Clark’s relationship with Lionsgate. The studio has tapped him to make his feature film directorial debut with its untitled Blair Witch movie. Raimi, meanwhile, is set to direct Magic for Lionsgate as his next project.

Clark pointed to his experience working on Blair Witch as a reason he is enthusiastic about bringing another film to the studio. He also made it clear that Infiniti’s work left an impression.

“With Blair Witch, I’m experiencing firsthand the trust Lionsgate places in its filmmakers, and I couldn’t be happier that Portrait of God has found a home there as well,” Clark said. “I’m also thrilled to welcome Chase Infiniti to our team. She blew me away in One Battle After Another and is one of the most exciting young actors working today.”

Romel Adam and Jose Cañas will oversee the project for Ghost House. On behalf of Monkeypaw, Chris Rosati will executive produce through his first-look deal at NAT20 Films. Scott O’Brien will oversee for Lionsgate, with Dan Freedman negotiating the deals on the studio’s behalf.

The announcement did not include a release date or plot synopsis for Portrait of God. For now, the title, Infiniti’s casting, and that first-ever Raimi-Peele producing collaboration give us plenty to be curious about. Consider our attention secured.
