Episode 2 opens with a haunting image: the lifeless body of Jacaerys ‘Jace’ Velayron (Harry Collett) drifting in the sea, a grim reminder of the devastating losses suffered during the Battle of the Gullet. Baela (Bethany Antonia) takes to the skies on Moondancer, consumed by grief over the loss of Jace. Jace’s body is recovered and brought back for a proper burial, but not before his mother, Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), is forced to confront the devastating reality of his death — a loss that threatens to consume her with grief and rage. Though Baela confirms that their side emerged victorious, the victory feels hollow. With so many lives lost — including Jace’s — it becomes painfully clear that no one truly won the Battle of the Gullet.
Rhaenyra is confronted with the worst news imaginable as she comes face-to-face with her son’s lifeless body. In that heartbreaking moment, the reality finally sets in: Jace is gone. It’s an incredibly difficult scene to watch, elevated by a powerful performance from Emma D’Arcy, who pours every ounce of grief, shock, and despair into the moment.
As the wreckage of the Battle of the Gullet washes ashore, the bloodshed continues. Survivors and soldiers alike remain locked in brutal combat, proving that the battle’s devastation extends far beyond the sea. Meanwhile Allyn of Hull (Abubakar Salim) is searching for his father Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) and he is nowhere to be found.

In the following scene we head to The Vale where Lady Rhaena Targaryen (Phoebe Campbell) seeks asylum and asks Lady Jeyne Arryn (Amanda Collin) for help. Lady Jeyne rejects Rhaena and tells her she wishes never to see her again.
Meanwhile, Jason Lannister’s (Jefferson Hall) head is on a pike and the men at camp celebrate their win at war at the Red Fork. The men are singing and rejoicing. Ser Simon Strong (Simon Russell Beale) appears and passes off a message to Daemon. Sadly it’s the announcement that Jace has passed and that he is to head back to King’s Landing.
Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin) meets with Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and asserts to him that she wants Harrenhal. Daemon quickly dismisses the idea, reminding her that she holds no title and, in his view, has no rightful claim to the ancient stronghold. Their tense exchange underscores Alys’ growing ambition and Daemon’s unwillingness to relinquish power, setting the stage for further conflict between the two.

Meanwhile Allyn searches ashore among the corpses for his missing father. Baela arrives with Moondancer and assures him that they will find Corlys. As Allyn is still uncertain of who he is and his place in the world, Baela assures him of Corlys’ concern for his well being in spite of his denial of his existence. We then see Allyn’s brother Addam fly in with Seasmoke up ahead and Baela says, “he’s searching too”. We then see Corlys wash up ashore alive.
Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) and Aegon Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) on their way to the Queen when their journey is halted once again when soldiers seize them. The chaos creates an unexpected opportunity to escape, and Aegon quickly seizes it. Determined to take control of his own fate, he insists on traveling to Rook’s Rest despite the risks that lie ahead.”
Next we see an exhausted Corlys reunited with his sons Addam and Allyn. Corlys tells Allyn that he has nothing to give him now but his name. Allyn says he counts that as more worth than a mountain of gold. Next, we see Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) enter the gold cloak quarters filled with naked men in search of Commander Luthor Largent (Tom Cullen). She warns him that Rhaenyra is making her return and reveals her plan to bring her into the Red Keep to reclaim the throne. Largent points out that many would consider such a move treason, prompting Alicent to question whether he truly believes it is treason himself. Their conversation highlights the growing divide between duty, loyalty, and the morality of the choices being made in the name of power.
Daemon encounters Ulf the White and Hugh the Hammer back at King’s Landing and immediately questions why they are not carrying out the Queen’s orders. Ulf reveals that something is wrong in the field, a revelation that quickly frustrates Daemon and he slaps Ulf.

Daemon then has a conversation with Mysaria and wants to know what game she’s playing since at this point he doesn’t trust her at all. Daemon gets a message that Vhar was spotted flying in the direction of the Riverlands.
Daemon then speaks with Rhaenyra and informs that Jace died fighting for his queen. Rhaenyra says there was another dragonrider who was responsible and she wants them found.
Next we see Lord Jasper Wylde (Paul Kennedy) walk into Alicent’s chambers. He closes the door and confronts her, accusing her of making questionable choices and committing unsavory acts in her pursuit of the crown. He then goes on to mention how she enjoyed being with Ser Criston and proceeds to put his hands on her. He attempts to assault her. The Master of Laws committing the most heinous of acts is interrupted thankfully by Maester Orwyle (Kurt Egiawan) and his men. The Maester immediately has Jasper arrested for putting his hands on the mother of the King.
Meanwhile Daemon tries to sow the seeds of doubt in Rhaenyra’s mind about Mysaria. Next, Alicent meets with Healena (Phia Saban) and tells her that Rhaenyra’s coming and they need to flee. Alicent then tells Ser Frederick to stand down on the command of Queen Healena. At first he’s reluctant, but with Aegon gone and the Prince Regent also gone, the Queen is now in command.

Aemond arrives on Vhagar, unleashing the full force of his dragon upon Harrenhal. The attack leaves parts of the stronghold engulfed in flames, with men on the outside caught in the devastation as Aemond’s fury takes hold. As Aemon jumps off his dragon and walks inside he sees Ser Simon Strong seated at meal. Aemond demands a duel and Simon does not want to fight. As he approaches him, Aemond takes his sword and stabs Simon in the belly, killing him. The other men seated with Simon (including his son) are also killed by Aemond. Then Alys Rivers walks in. Aemond looks down and he is bleeding. He collapses. He crawls to Alys asking for help before he falls into unconsciousness.
Meanwhile Rhaenyra, Daemon, and the Dragonriders approach Kings Landing. The Greens kneel in submission. Daemon opens the doors to the throne room and they enter. It is empty. Rhaenyra eyes the Iron Throne. A group of soldiers come in to defend.
Commander Luthor Largent arrives with the gold cloaks and ultimately declares his support for Rhaenyra. It becomes clear that Alicent’s earlier conversation with him had an impact, shifting his allegiance at a crucial moment. Largent also takes the opportunity to thank Daemon for his time leading the City Watch, acknowledging Daemon’s role in giving him his gold cloak and shaping the man he became. When Luthor tells Rhaenyra that the throne is hers, she says not just yet and wants Aegon the usurper to be brought to her.
Daemon finds Maester Orwyle and advises him of his fate. The Maester offers a more satisfying sacrifice in exchange for his life. And that man is Lord Jasper Wylde. Daemon is informed that he has a gift from Lord Larys Strong. And that is a prisoner. That prisoner of course is Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans)
Otto’s chickens have now come home to roost. Rhaenyra has a moment of hesitation because now she is tasked with having to kill Otto who is next in line to succeed Aegon which threatens her claim to throne. Daemon hands her his sword to execute him with. Rhanerya takes a swing and misses his neck cutting into his back instead. She takes another swing beheading him. She cries. Daemon immediately takes the sword and without hesitation beheads Lord Jasper.
Rhaenyra walks up slowly towards the Iron Throne and ceremoniously sits back on the throne for the first time in years.
The guards then escort Alicent and Helaena into the throne room as prisoners. As Alicent enters, her eyes fall upon the horrifying sight of her father, Otto Hightower, beheaded and laid before the court. The shock and grief are immediate. Looking up, she sees Rhaenyra seated upon the Iron Throne at last. Though victorious, Rhaenyra’s expression betrays the emotional weight of the moment. She struggles to hold back tears, maintaining a stoic facade as she confronts the devastating reality of what their war has cost them. In that silent exchange, both women seem to recognize that the friendship they once shared has been shattered beyond repair.
