Stephen King’s chilling dystopian classic The Long Walk has finally taken its first steps toward the big screen, and fans got their first taste of the adaptation during an intense and emotional Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games, I Am Legend), the long-awaited film was unveiled with exclusive footage, cast insights, and a panel that promised not just suspense — but soul.

With a story rooted in endurance, obedience, and rebellion, The Long Walk explores a near-future America under a militarized dictatorship where 100 teenage boys are forced to compete in a brutal contest: keep walking or die. The last one standing wins whatever their heart desires.

Hall H attendees were treated to an exclusive sequence from the first act of the film — the boys lining up for the Walk as crowds cheer, military guards monitor every step, and a chilling silence falls over them once the countdown hits zero. The visuals are stark and immersive: long stretches of open road, close-ups of blistered feet, and desperate whispers exchanged between walkers.

The panel featured Mark Hamill, Charlie Plummer, Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Garrett Wareing, and Tut Nyuot, along with writer J.T. Mollner and producer Roy Lee. Hamill’s appearance alone packed the house. Attendees glimpsed the first 22 minutes of the film, and a new clip was shown. While not a flashiest reveal, the panel held emotional power, especially through Hamill’s reflective contributions and the tough-but-real walking scenes.
