Paramount Pictures released the teaser trailer for Annihilation today, garnering excitement from awaiting fans. Based on Jeff VanderMeer’s best-selling Southern Reach Trilogy, Annihilation is about a biologist (played by Natalie Portman) searching for her missing husband while on an expedition with a secret agency who discovers a dangerous creature lurking in the wilderness. From the short teaser, we already get some suspense and action. What’s unique about this film’s storyline is the centering and focus on an all-female team, two of which are women of color (“Jane The Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez and “Thor:Ragnarok” star Tessa Thompson). Annihilation also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tuva Novotny, and Oscar Isaac. It was written and directed by Alex Garland of Ex Machina fame.
Annihilation will release in theaters on February 23rd.
