The Princess Without Voice in December’s The Shape of Water

This holiday season, prepare to be utterly entranced by a different sort of princess and magical creature. Guillermo del Toro is back with a fairy tale pulsating with the kind of grim-yet-whimsical suspense that only he can invoke.

A few trailers have preceded blockbuster movies this summer, and Fox Searchlight has just released a new trailer for December’s The Shape of Water.

“If I told you about her, the princess without voice, what would I say?” The trailer voice asks. The trailer opens on a house underwater, furniture and other belongings floating. A sleeping girl floats on a couch (which is also floating) before we see a painting of a girl with an anguish-stricken face hugging a fish-like creature.

The Shape of Water, produced by del Toro and J. Miles Dale, is – at its heart – a story about extending love and kindness and finding courage. The screenplay was written by del Toro and Vanessa Taylor; The Shape of Water stars Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Octavia Spencer, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Check out the trailer above, and look for it in select theaters this December 8!

From Fox Searchlight:

“From master story teller, Guillermo del Toro comes THE SHAPE OF WATER – an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1962. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment. Rounding out the cast are Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Doug Jones.”
