FX and Disney Entertainment Television are locking in one of television’s most visionary storytellers for the long haul. Noah Hawley award-winning producer, writer, and director — has signed a major new overall deal with the studios, FX Chairman John Landgraf confirmed. The news arrives alongside another big development: Alien: Earth, the global hit drama from FX, Hulu, and Disney+, has officially been renewed for a second season, with filming set to begin in London next year.
Hawley’s adaptation of Alien, inspired by Sir Ridley Scott’s iconic sci-fi horror masterpiece has been celebrated as one of the boldest reinventions of a legacy franchise in years. Backed by the creative power of Scott Free and its president David W. Zucker, the series has earned widespread critical acclaim, landing a Certified Fresh 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and an 85 Metacritic “Must-Watch” rating. For FX, the renewal not only builds on a standout first season but deepens a partnership with Hawley that has already produced some of the network’s most acclaimed series.
“It has been our great privilege to work with Noah for more than a decade on some of FX’s best and biggest shows, and we are thrilled to extend our partnership well into the future,” Landgraf said in the announcement. “Noah never stops surprising us with truly original stories… We can’t wait to get to work on the next season of Alien: Earth, as well as some equally exciting future projects in advanced development.”
Eric Schrier, President of Disney Television Studios & Global Original Television Strategy, echoed the excitement. “I learned first-hand that Noah was a unique talent while we worked on Fargo at FX. He has gone on to make many of the best shows in television, and I couldn’t be more excited that Noah will continue his FX partnership and broaden it across Disney Entertainment Television.”
For Hawley, the expanded deal marks both a homecoming and a creative expansion. “FX has always supported bold, character-driven storytelling,” he shared. “From the very beginning with Fargo, they’ve encouraged me to take creative risks and follow the story wherever it leads. Hawley’s track record with FX is nothing short of stellar. Since premiering in 2014, Fargo has earned seven Emmy Awards, 70 nominations, three Golden Globes, and a Peabody, while maintaining an impressive 93% average critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. His mind-bending Marvel series Legion also drew critical praise over its three-season run, averaging a 91% Rotten Tomatoes rating.
Season one of Alien: Earth starred Sydney Chandler and featured a sweeping ensemble including Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, David Rysdahl, Adrian Edmondson, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diem Camille, and Moe Bar-El.
FX’s Alien: Earth is created and executive produced by Hawley, with Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Clayton Krueger, Emilia Serrano, Bob DeLaurentis, Peter Calloway, Monica Macer, John Campisi, and Simon Emanuel also serving as executive producers. The series is produced by FX Productions.
